The first week of degree shows has been an interesting one. We’ve seen some definite Future Map potential out there and it’s just the beginning. Looking forward to rest of the shows. Keep an eye out for us!

The time has come around already to put on comfortable shoes and head back out to degree shows. We cannot wait to see what the class of 2011 has been up to and we’re looking forward to finding some real treasures for Future Map 2011. Good luck makers!

We are making final preparations so that when we return from the break we can hit the ground running to realise what I think is probably our most ambitious show ever. There is a lot to do, and many challenges still to come, but our brilliant team have been working hard to do as much preliminary work as possible to ensure that we turn around a brilliant show in a little more than a week of install time.

Thanks to all of the artists for their hard work, to the University and Zabludowicz teams involved in every facet of making Future Map 10 a reality.

An unconventional, interactive reading of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

BA (Hons) Textile Design – Chelsea College of Art & Design
Oak frames wrapped in viscose rayon yarn, chosen for its highly reflective properties. This makes for an interactive experience as the visual qualities of the pieces are affected by the movement of the observer.

Everything is coming to life with Future Map 10

We’ve just come from a site visit with the artists to discuss the layout and install of the show. It’s all getting very real and super exciting. With 28 artists, with multiple works, across 6 rooms this is going to be a major install, but the staff at 176 have made us feel so at home that I’m not even a little worried. We have a really lovely group of artists this year and I cannot wait to see the final show.

This year’s Future Map participants

We are so very excited to announce that we have now selected this year’s Future Map participants!

Our brilliant selection panel met this week at the Zabludowicz Collection in Chalk Farm to view over 100 works to be considered for Future Map 10. As opposed to previous years the decisions were largely unanimous and it was relatively easy to bash out this year’s show which I expect will be somewhat controversial, as it is notably absent of painting and photography.

Check out the podcasts that the judges recorded on our blog next week.

This year’s show is chock full of interactive, performance and video work, as well as, quirky jewellery, stunning fashion and loads more.

Images of the work should be up next week so that you can start to share in our excitement. Check the artist page next week for a sneak peak!
